Book portrays WW2 paratroopers efforts to repeat their historic Normandy jump on 50th Anniversary of D-Day.

59 years ago, Allied Airborne forces dropped into Nazi occupied France in the largest air and sea invasion the world has ever known.

Return To Normandy tells the poignant story of a group of WW2 veterans and their efforts to redefine democracy as they attemp to repeat the parachute jump that spearheaded the Normandy invasion of June 6, 1944.
  • In Return To Normandy, author Robert L. Williams relates what seemed to be divine guidance by the paratroopers to succeed in the face of Government opposition by recreating the monumental jump on the 50th Anniversary of D-Day. Officials feared the veterans, who ranged in age 68 to 83 years, were too old to return to the sky. The book describes the on-again, off-again negotiations that allowed these original jumpers to repeat the historic leap that turned the tides of WW2 in favor of the Allied troops from the perspective of a D-Day veteran.
  • Author Robert L. Williams enlisted in the Army Paratroopers in 1942 and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. He was the fifth man in his plane to jump, shortly after midnight, into a heavily fortified Nazi France. After the war, he settled down to raise a family, living a fairly normal life untill the 50th Anniversary of the most memorable day in his life drew near. He was determined to jump again in France from an old C-47 airplane to honor his forgotten comrades that died among the Normandy hedgerows. Return To Normandy tells the story of Williams and his fellow brave-hearted paratrooper's successful quest to commemorate the 50th Anniversary by once again taking to the sky and parachuting behind the beaches of Normandy (Utah Beach)on June 6, 1994
